Monkey's Vision Restored Following Cataract Surgery In Haryana

A government health university in Hisar has successfully performed cataract surgery on a monkey, marking the first such operation in Haryana, India. The surgery was conducted at Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), NDTV reported.

RN Chaudhary, Head of the Department of Animal Surgery and Radiology at LUVAS, shared that the monkey was brought to the campus by Munish, an animal lover from Hansi, after suffering severe burns from an electric shock.

New call-to-action

Upon arrival, the monkey was unable to walk. However, after several days of intensive care and treatment, it regained mobility. It was then discovered that the monkey had lost its vision.

The monkey was referred to the surgery department at LUVAS, where Dr Priyanka Duggal from the animal eye unit diagnosed it with white cataracts in both eyes. Additionally, the vitreous in one eye was damaged.

The team decided to operate on the other eye, and the surgery was a success, restoring the monkey's sight.

Cataract, a common eye disease, leads to a complete or partial loss of lens transparency. This historic surgery not only highlights the advanced veterinary care available but also showcases the compassionate efforts to improve the lives of all creatures, great and small.
