Kiwi Indians Theatre, a powerhouse of theatrical talent from the “Land of the Long White Cloud,” is set to launch its 9th production with a thrilling mystery, 13 Baker Street. Known for blending culture and art, Kiwi Indians Theatre brings this Agatha Christie-inspired production to the Black Box Theatre in Christchurch on February 8th, 2025. With a story steeped in suspense, supernatural twists, and an eerie mansion setting, the theatre group promises to keep the audience on edge.

A Legacy of Engaging Productions

Since 2005, Kiwi Indians Theatre has woven its artistic flair into New Zealand’s cultural fabric, staging productions in Auckland and Hamilton, and collaborating with festivals and events nationwide. Their last production, Villa Memoria, a thriller based on an Agatha Christie plot, captivated audiences, and now, 13 Baker Street promises to bring a whole new level of intrigue.

“We’re thrilled to debut 13 Baker Street in Christchurch,” shares director Vishnu Sreekumar, who has helmed several of the theatre’s acclaimed productions. “The excitement from Christchurch’s arts community has been tremendous; we’re honoured to perform what may be the first Indian drama night here, and in Malayalam too!”

An Intricate Tale Unfolds

Set in a grand mansion in Manchester, the drama follows a young couple starting a new chapter in life—until they discover that the house has secrets of its own. With an immersive set and costumes by Charu Chutani of Kathakars NZ, audiences will be transported straight into this atmospheric thriller.

Behind the scenes, a team of 25 members—10 of whom bring the characters to life—has been tirelessly rehearsing, currently clocking in six hours a week, which will increase as the big day approaches. The pre-production process began in early 2024, and it’s been all hands on deck since.

Community and Cultural Fusion at Heart

Kiwi Indians Theatre has always welcomed diversity, embracing performers of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences. Their youngest actor in 13 Baker Street, Siara Goyal, is just 5 and a half years old! This openness has shaped a theatre group that’s as dynamic as the stories they tell.

A Heartfelt Thanks to Supporters

The production owes its success to a network of dedicated sponsors: title sponsor Generation Homes Christchurch; platinum sponsors Jaggy Bhupal from Arizto Real Estate and Kripa Financial Solutions; gold sponsors Zealand Immigration and Axon Careers; and silver sponsors ACED Accounting, Ishpreet Singh (insurance advisor), Liquor Land Wairakei Road, and 5 River Spice Bazaar.

As 13 Baker Street debuts, Kiwi Indians Theatre extends an invitation to Christchurch’s theatre lovers and the Indian community to experience a night of mystery and cultural celebration like never before.
