International Yoga Day Celebrated At Hindu Heritage Centre Rotorua

The 10th International Day of Yoga was a vibrant affair at the Hindu Heritage Centre in Rotorua, collaborating with the Indian High Commission to New Zealand on Saturday, 22 June 2024. Themed "Yoga for Self and Society," the event highlighted yoga's dual benefits for individuals and communities.

The celebration united participants from diverse backgrounds, including Maori, Italian, German, American, Spanish, South African, Indian, and Fijian communities, showcasing yoga's unifying power. Part of the Health for Humanity Yogathon, the event aimed to inspire everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily lives.

Featuring Surya Namaskars, various yoga practices, meditation, mantra chanting, and talks by experts, the event emphasised yoga's holistic benefits. Led by renowned Yogacharya Ma Ananda Kalaadevi, the session was both impactful and memorable, inspiring attendees to practice yoga at home, in schools, and at workplaces.

Expressing her delight at the community’s enthusiastic participation, Ma Ananda Kalaadevi
remarked, “This International Day of Yoga programme created a wonderful opportunity for
people to explore the connections between body, mind, and soul. The turnout and engagement
we saw, especially at the Hindu Heritage Centre, were truly heartening.”

Dr. Guna Magesan, President of the Hindu Council of New Zealand, expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic participation and announced the upcoming New Zealand Hindu Elders Conference on September 28, 2024.
