Auckland is set to witness a unique theatrical event, the Prashant Damle Natya Mahotsav,featuring two legendary Marathi plays performed on the same day. This remarkable event is being held for the first time in Auckland and promises to be a memorable experience for theatre enthusiasts. It has been brought to New Zealand through the efforts of Hangover Production, Enkay Entertainment, and Shweta Kedar Divekar.

Prashant Damle, a celebrated figure in Marathi theatre, will be traveling to Auckland with his crew of 13 esteemed theatre personalities from India. Among the notable names in the crew are Vinay Edekar, Kavita Medhekar, and Advait Dadarkar, all of whom have made significant contributions to the world of theatre.

Eka Lagnachi Pudhchi Goshta

“Eka Lagnachi Pudhchi Goshta” is a sequel to the 1998 super hit Marathi play, “Eka Lagnachi Goshta.” Directed by Shrirang Godbole and Mangesh Kadam, this play continues the story of Manoj and Manisha, a couple who have been married for more than 18 years. As they seek new experiences outside their marriage, they encounter challenges that put their relationship to the test. The play, known for its humour and positive ending, is a delightful watch for audiences of all ages.

Gela Madhav Kunikade

“Gela Madhav Kunikade” tells the humorous tale of Madhav, a man with two wives. Struggling to keep both women happy, Madhav finds himself in a series of comedic situations, especially when he and his close friend try to cover up their secrets. This play is sure to leave the audience in splits with its witty dialogues and humorous scenes.

The crew will arrive in Auckland on July 27th, where the much-anticipated plays will be staged. Following the Auckland performance, Prashant Damle and his team will travel to Wellington on July 28th for the Gappa Goshti program, an event dedicated to the Marathi community in Wellington.

Prashant Damle is widely recognised as a major superstar of Marathi theatre. Over his illustrious 35-year career in performing arts, he has been honoured with numerous prestigious awards and holds five Limca Book of Records titles.

Damle’s impressive portfolio also includes performances in 37 Marathi feature films and 24 Marathi serials. His return to New Zealand after nearly a decade is highly anticipated by fans and theatre lovers alike.
