"Aucklanders, Get ready to be immersed in a whirlwind of colours and community spirit.” Dr Rajesh Joshi is upbeat as she talks about the 'Colours of Joy'.
The pre-Holi event by Rainbow Celebrating Life Trust is scheduled for February 10, 2024, from 11am to 3pm at Barry Curtis Skatepark in Flat Bush.
Talking to The Indian Weekender, Joshi, the brain behind the celebration, says, “It's not just an event; it's a joyous experience for the entire community. It's family-friendly and will be loads of fun. Families and individuals from all walks of life are invited to participate in this vibrant celebration. Entry is free."
The event will feature music, dance, cultural performances, and, of course, an array of colours available for purchase at the venue. It endeavours to unite people for a day of unity, music, and colour.
Reflecting on the importance of community events for the Kiwi-Indian community, Joshi says, "We wanted to have a vibrant family event for our communities that is fun, joy, and family-oriented. Enlivening community spirit through fun events like this is vital, fostering unity and joy. 'Colours of Joy' is a testament to the richness of our diverse cultures.
“You'll leave with your spirits lifted and a colour-splattered smile on your face, thanks to our easily washable, skin-friendly colours.”
The history of the event adds an extra layer of significance. "This is the second time we are organising this event in Flatbush, Auckland. We initially planned it in 2021, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, it was cancelled. We brought it back in 2023, once we emerged from the shadows of the pandemic," Joshi says.
As preparations kick into high gear, Joshi throws out a playful invitation, "Get ready to be part of the most colourful party in town. Wear sunglasses and a white T-shirt to embrace the colours fully!"
Prospective attendees are already expressing their excitement. Auckland resident Lucy Turner says, "I'm ready to dance, get messy with colours, and just soak in the joy. I have my sunglasses and white-T shirt ready!”
Priya Gupta from Remuera says, "I'm looking forward to an event that brings people together and adds a splash of joy to our routines. I'm coming with my family, and we're going all out with the colours!"
