Get ready, Dunedin!
The city is about to dazzle with lights, colours, and the infectious energy of Diwali as the Dunedin Indian Association prepares to host the annual Diwali Festival on November 9, 2024. From 3 pm to 8 pm, the More FM Arena at Edgar Centre will be transformed into a lively hub of Indian culture, with brilliant performances, mouth-watering food, and plenty of family fun.
Thanks to the support of The Rout Group (Dunedin), Bikanerwala (Auckland), and platinum sponsor Swift Mortgages (Dunedin), along with generous grants from the Dunedin City Council and the Ethnic Community Development Fund, this year’s festival promises to be bigger and better than ever!
An incredible lineup of cultural performances will light up the stage, featuring renowned groups like MāyāDharā International Indian Dance School, Ragalayam Mini School of Carnatic Music, Naatya School of Indian Dance, Rasa School of Dance, Mudras Kids Dance, Punjabi Bhangra, Khamzin Belly Dance, and the dynamic Beats of South – Chenda Melam Group. And for those eager to show off their own moves, the open-to-all freestyle dance floor will keep everyone grooving!
A must-see highlight of the event is the “Weaves of India” cultural fashion show, a stunning showcase of traditional Indian attire that celebrates the country’s diverse heritage. As the stage comes alive with Bollywood beats and folk rhythms, attendees can explore food stalls offering authentic Indian street food and join in the vibrant energy of live dance and music.
But the fun doesn’t stop there! This family-friendly festival has something for everyone: get a beautiful henna tattoo, dress up in traditional outfits for a photo op, try your hand in the game zone, or test your luck with raffle draws. Kids will be in for a treat with a dedicated play area featuring bouncy castles. The venue will be adorned with festive decorations, creating the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable experience!
