Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust Hosts Matariki Festival Celebration
On June 22, 2024, the Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust hosted a vibrant celebration of the Matariki Festival at the Mount Roskill War Memorial Hall. The event drew over 200 attendees, including seniors, dignitaries, Members of Parliament, Dr. Carlos Cheung, Patron and Auckland Council Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board member Dr. Ashraf Chaudhary QSO JP, Jessica Phuang, Ethnic Responsiveness Manager for NZ Police, and community leaders representing various organisations.

The festivities started with a heartwarming performance by Bhartiya Samaj school children, who captivated the audience with their cultural displays. The children also delivered speeches that highlighted the importance of Matariki and its significance in Māori culture. Their insights into the traditions and customs associated with Matariki enthralled the audience.
A standout moment was the mesmerising performance by a Māori Kapa Haka group. Their powerful presentation of traditional Māori songs and dances left the audience in awe and added an authentic touch to the celebration.
