This October, Auckland Town Hall will morph into a mesmerising world of temples, wildlife, and glowing colours, as a stunning 3D light projection show kicks off the BNZ Auckland Diwali Festival. Tigers, elephants, and deer will roam its walls, while a vibrant forest of flowers flourishes across the building’s façade, transforming the city centre into an immersive celebration of the Festival of Lights.

From 14 to 23 October, after sundown, the historic Town Hall will come alive in a dazzling display of Diwali storytelling, painted in fuchsia pink, yellow, and orange. The projection will weave a visual tale of good triumphing over evil, light over darkness, all while showcasing the symbolic beauty of Diwali.

Nick Hill, Chief Executive of Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, emphasises the importance of this cultural spectacle. “Diwali has been part of Auckland’s landscape for over two decades. It’s a celebration of our city’s cultural richness, and we’re proud to honour that tradition,” says Hill.

Festival director Duane Wichman-Evans shares a glimpse of the captivating storyline: “It begins at sunrise with the Town Hall morphing into a temple, Hindu Gods appearing in the windows. Soon, deer and monkeys roam the pillars, arrows fly, fireworks erupt, and the building transforms into the temple of Ayodhya. A herd of elephants will wander through a virtual jungle before vibrant rangoli designs emerge to bring the show to a close.”
