As the period drama "Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar" continues its successful run on Netflix, fans are eagerly questioning director Sanjay Leela Bhansali about the possibility of a sequel. Despite earlier hints that "Heeramandi" was a unique, one-time project, Bhansali recently clarified that the decision to create a second season lies with Netflix.

New call-to-action

"First of all, thank you for loving season one. But whether season two happens or not depends on Netflix announcing it if they want to go ahead with it. They are the producers and the best producers I have ever worked with in 30 years. I keep telling them I’ve done some good karma to have had the chance to work with people like them. But the decision to do season two comes from them, not from me,” Bhansali said during an interview with Bollywood Hungama.

"Heeramandi," a semi-historical drama set in pre-Independence Lahore, delves into the lives of courtesans and noblemen entangled in personal conflicts amidst the freedom struggle. Reflecting on the project during a chat with IMDb last week, Bhansali stated, “We’ve made it, I’ve enjoyed making it, and I’m thankful to God that we made it… It was a very difficult project. Nobody else will ever be able to make Heeramandi again, nor will I be able to make it again, because it happens once.”

Bhansali reiterated his passion for storytelling, emphasising his commitment to providing audiences with an immersive experience rather than merely generating profit.
